Material Research Process

There were several other processes including baking, mincing, blending, cutting, adding other materials, and freezing. The end results of this material study led the product to made through one main process. The main process of creating the material began with adding sugar to water. Once the sugar gets to a boiling point, different types of seaweed are added into the mixture. That mixture is then stirred and poured into the mold until cooled.

Phase 1: Sketches

Now knowing which material process to use, I began doing explorations on what I could create with this new material that I created.

Phase 2: Draft Models

Once deciding on using the sugar as the primary material as the hardener to mix with the seaweed, different models were then designed.

Phase 3: Sketch Exploration

Further defining the final model designs through sketch exploration.

Phase 4: Model Study & Comparison Chart

After making some draft models, I began expanding the idea of the materials for different designs in 3D modeling programs. I began an augmented reality study to further analyze the different designs. In order to move forward with a final design, a matrix was made.
